Fejér
The county of Fejer is situated in the central part of Hungary, west of the capital, Budapest. It borders Pest and Bacs-Kiskun to the east, Tolna to the south, Somogy and Veszprem to the west and Komarom-Esztergom to the north. The region has a specific geographical location that turns it into a crossroads of European importance. The river Danube is the main water artery, with a great influence on transport, agriculture and even local customs. Fejer provides a wide range of landscapes that can satisfy all tastes. The soft hills, covered with forests and vineyards, are excellent for hiking and cycling tours, while picturesque Lake Velence, one of the warmest water basins in Europe, invites water sports fans and picnic lovers. Cultural attractions are also ample, varying from traditional rural communities to splendid palaces in the countryside. The county seat, Szekesfehervar, used to be a royal residence and coronation place in the Middle Ages. The tombs of fifteen Hungarian rulers and exuberant Gothic and Baroque buildings bear witness to this past glamour.
