Veszprém
Veszprem is situated in the heart of Western Hungary, surrounded by Vas and Zala to the west, Gyor-Moson-Sopron and Komarom-Esztergom to the north, Fejer to the east and Somogy to the south. Almost the whole southern border of the county is occupied by the banks of Lake Balaton. This area is called the Balaton Riviera, and is a true paradise for swimmers, windsurfers and holidaymakers with its shallow waters and very high summer temperatures. The spa resort of Balatonfured is extremely popular for its thermal waters and over 100 mineral springs. The basalt and limestone hills north of the lake are home to some of the best vineyard massifs in the country. The historical towns of Papa and Veszprem attract tourists interested in history and culture. The latter is built on seven hills and is a renowned university and religious centre. The highlight of every visit to the county seat is the marvellous Medieval castle that overlooks the city.
