Border
The Border Region occupies the northernmost part of Ireland. As its name suggests, it lies on the border with Northern Ireland. To the south the regions of West, Midland and Mid-East are stuated. The long and indented coastline makes the area one of the most beloved destinations for hiking, cycling and watersports in the country. From the Border Region, the two longest Irish rivers, Shannon and Erne, flow southwards, becoming extremely important thoroughfares. Fans of cultural tourism will be delighted by the variety of heritage sites, not only in the cities but in the countryside as well. In the numerous traditional farms and villages, visitors can enjoy local cuisine and hospitality or attend some unique museums. Folk music festivals are frequent events in all seasons. The largest urban areas are Sligo, known for its impressive cathedral and plenty of parks and gardens, and the magnificent Medieval market town of Letterkenny, with its noteworthy architecture.
