Midland
Midland is one of the tiniest regions in the Republic of Ireland, and the only one without an outlet to the Atlantic Ocean or the Irish Sea. It's surrounded on all sides by the regions of Mid-East, South-East, Mid-West, West and the Border Region. The landscape here can be referred to as typically Irish, with vast green meadows, rolling hills, idyllic forests and plenty of rivers, canals, lakes and waterways. This diversity of scenery has made Midland into a favourite holiday destination. The romantic rural countryside is crossed by a network of hiking trails and cycling routes. Historically, the region has always been a centre of knowledge and science, since the days before Christianity. Many heritage sites attract the attention of scientists, culture lovers and curious visitors. The region is also known for its chemical industry and wood processing, and is also a major crossroads between Dublin and the west coast.
