Mid-East
The Mid-East Region is situated in the eastern part of Ireland, and forms a kind of belt around the city of Dublin. It borders the Dublin Region and the Irish Sea to the east, the South-East Region to the south, the Midland to the west and the Border Region to the north. Due to its flat terrain and fertile soils, this part of the country has a higher percentage of arable land than any other. It serves as part of the wider Dublin agglomeration and has a tight economic relationship with the capital. The Mid-East Region is the area with the fastest increasing population and most impressive economic growth, resulting from the high technologies activity. The only bigger settlements in the district are the pre-Norman royal meeting venue, Naas, and the historical town of Navan. They're both typical commuter towns, as are the majority of the towns and villages in the Mid-East Region. A number of racecourses and international music festivals represent the cultural entertainment scene here.
