Dublin Region
Dublin is the smallest region within the Republic of Ireland, but is of great economic, political and cultural importance, since it contains the capital of the country and its outskirts. The region lies on the east coast of the island, and is entirely surrounded by the Mid-East Region from the inland. The large part of its territory is occupied by the urban and industrial zone of Dublin, hence the high density of its population. Although it's located in the extreme east of Ireland, the region is the undeniable transportation hub of the country, with all major roads and railways leading to it. Furthermore, it represents Ireland's only connection with the rest of the world through its busy port and modern international airport. Dublin is home to all government institutions and the most prestigious theatres, museums, galleries and universities. Its main tourist attraction is the unique district of Temple Bar, but the gorgeous castles, lively shopping miles and thousands of bars and pubs don't fall behind. Dublin and its surroundings are condsidered one of the greenest urban areas in Europe, with ample parks and gardens that offer fun and relaxation for everyone.
