Calabria
Calabria is in the centre of the Mediterranean, reaching Basilicata to the south. It is shaped like a small peninsula, surrounded by the Tyrrhenian and the Ionian Seas. The Strait of Messina separates it from Sicily. The region is known to have been the cradle of ancient civilizations. It gave its name to the whole Italian Peninsula. Italia was the name at first given to Calabria in honor of its king Italo. Evidence of ancient civilizations can be seen everywhere in the region, starting from prehistoric times, to the settlements of the Bruzi and the great era of Magna Graecia. Tourists who are not interested in history that much should visit the region for its beautiful beaches and clear blue sea on the almost 800 km of coastline. People who enjoy mountain hiking can go to the wilder mountains or the citrus orchards and Centuries old olive groves.
