Apulia
Apulia (or Puglia) is located on the Adriatic Sea. Its capital is Bari, the second largest city of southern Italy. The Salento peninsula, Apulia’s most southern point, forms the heel of the Italian boot. The Gargano peninsula is the most interesting geographical sightseeing to be had in Apulia. It juts out into The Adriatic Sea like a spur on a boot. During the Centuries the region has been conquered by different rulers because of its importance as a gateway to and from the East. Its architecture is amazing, especially that of the castles and the churches in its northern part. Tourists should see the trulli houses in central Apulia, the Levantine atmosphere of its merchant cities and the florid Baroque of Lecce to feel the external influence on the architecture in the region.
