Umbria
Umbria is called the ‘green heart of Italy’. It is famous for its rustic scenery and historic hill towns, built of pinkish grey stone, too. The Middle Ages can be felt in the Medieval villages, monasteries and castles. The region is one of the few Italian regions that do not share a border with the sea. One third of its territory is mountainous and the rest is hilly, covered by olive groves and vineyards. It is often regarded as the most beautiful of the Italian regions. Every city in Umbria has its own unique atmosphere and identity. A lot of civilizations have contributed to the development of the culture and architecture – starting with the Umbrian, the Etruscan, the Roman, followed by the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, leaving its imprint on them. Visitors can see some unforgettable masterpieces of the arts. There is something for everybody who wants to visit it – art and culture, archaeology, food and wine, mysticism, handicraft, waters and spas, nature and park.
