Ogre
Ogre is a district in the central part of Latvia, not far from the capital, Riga. The area's landscape is entirely dominated by the river Daugava and its banks. Ogre is one of the most densely populated and economically significant regions in the country. It's also known as a Russian stronghold, for half of the population is of Russian origin. The biggest city is Ogre, with more than 27,000 inhabitants. It boasts long traditions, as it was first mentioned in a written document from the year 1206. Nowadays, Ogre is a health resort and a much-loved recreational area for citizens of the Latvian capital. Another place worth a mention is the historical town of Ilkskile, a thriving village during German rule in the Middle Ages.
