Talsi
Talsi is a district in Western Latvia, on the Kurzeme Peninsula. It borders the districts of Ventspils to the west and Kuldiga and Tukums to the south. To the north and east, Talsi enjoys a 96-kilometre-long coastline, which is a renowned tourist destination, although still not as urbanized as the leading seaside resorts of Liepaja and Jurmala. Most of the district's territory is covered with forests, lakes and swamps. Arable land is relatively limited, as much of it is devoted to peat production. Talsi is an area of rich cultural traditions, originating from centuries ago. The population consists almost entirely of Latvians, the district being among the first in the country in this respect. The administrative centre and biggest town is Talsi, one of the most beautiful places in Latvia with its traditional architecture, idyllic parks and gardens and plenty of cultural sites, including a Medieval moated castle and a couple of museums.
