Rēzekne
Rezekne is a district in Eastern Latvia, surrounded by Balvi to the north, Ludza to the east, Kraslava to the south and Madona and Preili to the west. The district comprises the town of Rezekne and its surroundings. It's situated directly on the railway connection between Riga and Moscow. The landscape of the area is characterised by spacious plains strewn with sporadic low hills and a dense network of rivers and lakes. The main town of the district, Rezekne, has been an important cultural and economical centre since times immemorial. Many archaeological sites and monuments bear witness to these epochs. The most popular landmark is the Medieval castle and the adjacent fortress remains.
