Valmiera
Valmiera is the northernmost district of Latvia. It borders Estonia to the north, Limbazi to the west, Cesis to the south and Valka to the east. The region is densely populated compared to the neighbouring areas. The main city is Valmiera, one of the cultural centres of the country. It's
also a major industrial town, particularly known for its food industry and wood processing. In the region, some of the oldest archaeological artefacts were found, some of which date back to the 7th Century BC. What's more, Valmiera was a member of the Hanseatic League, from which period many landmarks and heritage sites are still preserved.
