Aizkraukle
The Aizkraukle district lies in the southern part of the country, on the border with Lithuania. Its administrative centre is the town of the same name, with approximately 9,000 inhabitants and a couple of museums dedicated to local nature and traditions. The region is of a rural character and the landscape is dominated by numerous villages and farms. Latvia's most important river, the Daugava, flows through the district.
