Gozo
Gozo is the second-largest island in the archipelago of Malta. Situated north of the principal island, Gozo differs from it through its predominantly rural character. The absolute lack of trees and other vegetation untouched by humans contributes to the one-of-a-kind image of the hilly island. The rolling hills are a much-loved destination for hiking trips. The coastline of Gozo is also very attractive for holidaymakers with its numerous romantic inlets and virgin beaches. One of the most beautiful places in the entire archipelago is the Azure Window. This spectacular landmark looks like a rock arch in the water. A couple of significant places of worship on the island are of great interest to culture and history freaks. However, the undeniable must-see on Gozo is the Ggantija temple complex. The awe-inspiring Neolithic ensemble is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as the oldest religious site and oldest free-standing structure in the world, surpassing even the Pyramids of Egypt.
