Anenii Noi
The district of Anenii Noi lies in the southern part of the country to the east of the capital city
Chisinau. It also borders Transnistria, Laloveni and Causeni. The region occupies a hilly area
along the right bank of the Nistru River. The abundance of fertile land is used intensively for agriculture and wine production; however, forests are scarce. In regards to ethnicity, the region is homogenous with only minute Russian, Ukrainian and Romanian minorities. The administrative centre, Anenii Noi, is a typical
provincial settlement with a couple of industrial factories and rural surroundings. It originates from
the beginning of the 18th Century. The only sites in the district that might be of interest to tourists
are some preserved old Orthodox churches.
