Briceni
The Briceni District occupies the north-western tip of Moldova. It shares common borders with
Romania to the west, Ukraine to the north and the domestic districts of Ocnita to the east and
Edinet to the south. Most of the region lies within the valley of the Prut River, which divides it from
Romania. The landscape is comparatively more varied than in the rest of the country thanks to
the eastern-most reaches of the Carpathian Mountains and a small part of the Codri Heights. For
enthusiasts of active tourism Briceni offers wide range of entertainment - from hiking tours to water
sports. The wine-tasting trails are experiencing a growing popularity among foreign visitors in this part of the country. Located near the village of Criva, which is the western-most point of Moldova, is the spectacular Emil Racovita Cave. The town of Briceni, as many other settlements throughout the republic, was established by Jews two centuries ago.
