Cimişlia
Cimislia is a district at the southern end of Moldova. It shares common borders with Ukraine,
Gagauzia and Basarabeasca to the south, Causeni to the east, Ialoveni and Hincesti to the north
and Leova to the west. Rolling green hills, scant forests and seemingly endless farmlands are
what characterises the scenery of this district. A dense network of rivers and creeks provides
good conditions for the development of both agriculture and active tourism. In the countryside one
can find cultural points of interest, as well. The most remarkable among them is St George
Monastery not far from the village of Zloti. One can still see the remains of former German settlements surrounding of the main town of Cimislia. The administrative centre counts as the
oldest existing town in southern Moldova, originating from 1620. It is site of some significant
archaeological findings and is valued for its great scientific value.
