Dubăsari
Dubasari belongs to the smallest district in Moldova. It consists of two separate parts on
both banks of the Dniester River. The district borders Transnistria to the north and east and
Orhei, Criuleni and Ialoveni to the west and south. Geographically, Dubasari is part of the
fertile Dniester Valley that dominates the landscape of the whole of eastern Moldova. In spite of its
appealing location, the region possesses few assets that could be of tourist interest. The whole
economy revolves around extensive agriculture and heavy industry. Especially well-developed is
hydroelectric power production on the outskirts of the biggest city of Dubasari. It, however, is under
the control of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian Republic and the administrative centre of the
district has been moved to the tiny village of Cocieri.
