Rezina
The district of Rezina is located in eastern Moldova and is surrounded by Transnistria to the east,
Orhei to the south, Telenesti to the west and Soldanesti to the north. Geographically, the region
belongs to the valley of Dniester. The landscape is dominated by the wide fertile lowlands cut by
numerous dry valleys covered with scant steppe vegetation. Further west is a range of low hills
dividing the Reut and Dniester valleys. A unique landmark for the region is the rock monastery
near the village of Tipova originating from the 5th Century AD. The great Moldavian prince Stefan
cel Mare orchestrated his wedding ceremony in this Orthodox temple. In the village of Saharna is
another important sacred place - an 800-year-old cave monastery. The only town in the
district of Rezina bears the same name and is famed for its giant cement factory.
