Teleneşti
Telenesti is a district in the northern part of central Moldova. Its neighbours are Singerei to the
west, Floresti and Soldanesti to the north, Rezina and Orhei to the east and Calarasi and Ungheni
to the south. The district is situated in the spacious and hilly area between the Codri Heights in the
west and the wide deep valleys of the Reut and Dniester Rivers in the east. It counts as the most
fertile regions in the republic. Vine-growing and wine production play a central role not only in local
economy, but in the culture as well. Wine tasting and rural tourism are rapidly developing in the
villages in Telenesti. The village of Budai is famous as the birthplace of the Moldovan poet Ion
Constantin Ciobanu. The area around the capital of the district Telenesti was inhabited in ancient
times by the Dacians.
