Limburg
Limburg is located in the south-eastern part of the Netherlands and stretches deep between Germany and Belgium. The province also borders on North Brabant to the west and Gelderland to the north. From a geo-political point of view, Limburg is one of the most important regions, not only in the Netherlands, but in Europe as a whole. Its capital, Maastricht, is one of the political centres of the European Union. In addition, it's a city of remarkable cultural heritage and is regarded as the oldest still-existing settlement in the country. An abundance of architectural masterpieces, churches and even the remains of a Medieval fortress create the charm of the city as a leading tourist destination. Another fact worth noting is that Limburg is the most "mountainous" part of the Netherlands. Here, you'll find the highest point in the country, Vaalserberg, which is a much-loved spot for hiking tourism, although it's only 322 metres above sea level.
