Flevoland
Flevoland is the least populous and second smallest province of the Netherlands. It's situated in the central part of the country, on the site of the former Zuiderzee, which was drained in the first half of the 20th Century in order to gain more arable land. Nowadays, almost the whole territory is below sea level and consists of shallow swamps and fertile land used extensively for agricultural purposes. In the south, there are forests, included in a nature park on the basis of their valuable flora and fauna. The administrative centre of Lelystad is a modern industrial city with a range of tourist attractions, such as the Batavia Shipyard, Hanzestad Compagnie and the National Aviation Theme Park Aviodrome. Furthermore, it hosts different festivals and events, like the annual airshow and the speedway races.
