Podlasie
Placed in the north-eastern corner of Poland, Podlasie Province is probably the most rural and wild of all the administrative divisions. With relatively few towns and poorly developed net of roads and railway, it comprises a vast area of forests, plains and lakes, with as many as four national parks. The most popular destinations here includes Bialowieza National Park, which is the last primeval forest in Europe and a habitat for European bison and other animals. The northern portion is dotted with lakes, attracting with beautiful little lakeside towns and villages as well as Augustow Canal, a masterpiece of 19th-Century engineering. Bialystok, the capital, is moderately attractive city and there are some charming small towns around, including Tykocin, Grabarka or Drohiczyn.
