Presov
The Presov Region is the largest and second most populous administrative division in Slovakia. The region is located in northeastern Slovakia and borders Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Banska Bystrica and Kosice to the south and Zilina to the west. As one of the most diverse parts of the country, most of the region is covered with hills and low mountains, separated by wide river valleys. However, the westernmost part of the region is dominated by the High Tatras, an extraordinarily impressive mountain, the highest in this part of Europe, which features glacial lakes, inaccessible snow-capped summits, spa resorts and a wide variety of wildlife, preserved in the national park of the same name. The unique wooden villages in the High Tatras are well-known heritage sites, and the Old Town of Bardejov is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its exceptional medieval fortified quarter. The capital Presov, which falls behind only Bratislava and Kosice in terms of population, is known for its historical centre, full of Baroque, Rococo and Gothic buildings.
