Kosice
The region of Kosice lies in the southeastern part of Slovakia, surrounded by Hungary to the south, Ukraine to the east, Banska Bystrica to the west and Presov to the north. The Kosice region is the second most populous in the country, featuring comparatively low and tourist-friendly Slovak Ore Mountains in the west, while towards the Ukraine the terrain becomes flatter, crossed by a dense network of rivers. The whole region offers diverse opportunities for active holidays in all seasons, from skiing in the winter to hiking and swimming in the summer. Kosice and its surroundings boast some of the best maintained biking trails in the country, and its cities feature many diverse cultural sites. The Gothic cathedral in the administrative centre Kosice is considered to be the largest and most representative example of Gothic-style architecture in Slovakia. As the second largest city after Bratislava, Kosice showcases its well-preserved Old Town and unique architectural ensembles.
