Prekmurje
The region of Transmuraland occupies the northeastern end of Slovenia, and is basically isolated from the rest of the country by the river Mura and its valley. The region features a unique location, bordering on three other countries in the heart of Central Europe: Austria, Hungary and Croatia. The region's landscape is flat, with a couple of gentle hills and river valleys. The countryside is ideal for sports and picnics, as well as for archeological enthusiasts seeking Stone Age remnants. Transmuraland is also famous for its exquisite cuisine, which combines elements and influences of the neighbouring countries. The principal city of Murska Sobota is the cultural and economical centre of the region and is known for its spas and two impressive castles in the surrounding area.
