Aragon
The autonomous community of Aragon lies in Northeastern Spain, surrounded by Catalonia, Valencia, Castilla La Mancha, Castilla and Leon and Navarre. It also borders France to the north. Aragon is the fourth largest administrative division in Spain, but is sparsely populated due to the predominantly mountainous terrain. More than half of its population is concentrated in the capital Zaragoza, one of the biggest and most significant cities in the whole country. The city is a first-class transportation hub, international fair centre and home to one of the oldest universities in Spain. Countless historical landmarks, such as the Cathedral, the city walls and Moorish castles are definitely worth seeing. The undeniable highlight is the complex of medieval churches, included by UNESCO on the World Heritage List. Outside of Zaragoza there are many other architectural landmarks, like the emblematic Romanesque Loarre Castle, for example. The small town of Teruel is also noteworthy for its stunning Mudejar architectural examples. Nature lovers and winter sport fans will be delighted by the diversity of nature parks and ski resorts high in the Pyrenees.
