Valencia
The Valencian community is situated in Eastern Spain and occupies much of the country's
Mediterranean coast. One of the most populous and best developed autonomous communities in
Spain, Valencia is an international centre of tourism, industry, commerce, culture and sport. Its
administrative centre, the city of Valencia, is the third largest city in Spain and boasts more than
2,100 years of existence. It offers its guests a wonderfully preserved old quarter, magnificent
cathedral and other places of worship, a variety of parks and gardens with lush vegetation and last,
but not least, an unrivalled dynamic of life, best felt in the plentiful theatres, cafes, restaurants and
shopping centres. Another big city in the region is the important harbour Alicante, famed for its
colourful festival. The inland is occupied by hilly areas, largely covered with olive and orange
groves. As far as the coastline is concerned, this is one of the leading Spanish seaside holiday
destinations with an abundance of modern resorts and endless fine beaches.
