Balearic Islands
The Balearic Islands is an archipelago east of the Iberian Peninsula and is the second smallest
autonomous community in Spain after the African territories Ceuta and Melilla. The islands have
always been regarded as one of the most attractive tourist destinations not only in Spain, but in
the whole world, as well. The four main islands are Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera,
and each of them possesses its own distinctive natural characteristics. Mallorca is a holiday paradise with its exceptional historical heritage, wild landscapes, trendy seaside resorts, endless fine beaches and, above all, the administrative centre of Palma de Mallorca, a modern cosmopolitan city with nightlife that is unmatched anywhere else in Europe. Eivissa is renowned around the world as the leading club and party venue, attracting millions of boisterous youngsters every year. The other islands of the archipelago allure visitors with their intact nature, which is preserved in national parks. Apart from mass seaside tourism, the Balearic Islands have established their image as a destination for hiking, watersports and cultural tourism.
