Fribourg
Fribourg is a mid-sized canton in the west of Switzerland, and borders Vaud and Bern to the west and east, respectively. It also occupies a significant part of the coast of Lake Neuchatel. In geographical terms, the region is prevailingly flat, most of it lying on the wide and elevated Swiss Plateau. Numerous short rivers and lakes cater to watersports fans and are ideal spots for romantic picnics or leisurely strolls. Most of the area consists of pastures and arable land, used for cattle breeding and agriculture, two pillars of the local economy. Tourist attractions are scarce, save for the archaeological sites near Lake Neuchatel and Lake Morat, which reveal artefacts from prehistoric times. The capital, Fribourg, is a small industrial town, which is interesting first of all with the best preserved Old Town in the country, as well as with its university and numerous museums. Fribourg is considered to be on the cultural border between German and French influences.
