Geneva
The canton of Geneva occupies the south-western end of the country and is almost completely surrounded by French territory. The major centre of French culture and language in Switzerland is also known as the venue of some crucial events related to the birth of Protestantism. Today the area is still a Protestant stronghold, with many churches and landmarks of tourist interest. The most distinguished element of the landscape is Lake Geneva, the second largest Central European freshwater lake. It's a magnet for nature lovers, watersports fans and wealthy people from all around the world, due to the exceptional beauty and mild climate of the spot. The city of Geneva is the capital and most important settlement of the canton. It's famous as the seat of a number of international organizations, a world-class banking and financial centre and venue of some of the best universities in Europe. The most visited event in the city is the annual Geneva Motor Show.
