Glarus
Glarus is among the smallest Swiss cantons, situated in the eastern part of the country. The canton borders Sankt Gallen to the north and east, Graubuenden to the south, and Uri and Schwyz to the west. The terrain is mountainous, crossed by numerous river valleys. Especially grandiose is the valley of Linth, where most of the bigger settlements are concentrated. Much loved by both locals and visitors is Lake Walen, which represents a dream tourist destination with its cool, clear water and wooded slopes around it. Despite the growing industrialization in the area, much of it is still filled with dairy farms and green pastures, and looks like a postcard. Heritage sites and historical landmarks are few, save for the old quarter of the capital, Glarus, where houses with traditional facades are lined along narrow streets and historic squares.
