Jura
The canton of Jura is located in Northwestern Switzerland, on the border with France. This is the newest canton, created in 1979, when it was separated from Bern. Jura's landscape is dominated by the mountain range of the same name to the south, while its northern part is occupied by the limestone Jura Plateau. The entire region is crossed by a dense network of rivers, the most significant being Doubs and Birs. As a prevailingly rural district, the canton specializes in agriculture, cattle and horse breeding. Some of the most expensive and prestigious watches in the world are produced here. From a tourist's point of view, the capital Delemont is of great interest with its extraordinarily well-preserved Medieval city centre, full of masterpieces in various architectural styles and spacious squares ornamented with Renaissance fountains. The local synagogue and ruins of an early Medieval castle in the vicinity are also worth a visit.
