Obwalden
The canton of Obwalden is situated in Central Switzerland, surrounded by Lucerne, Bern, Uri and Nidwalden. It's the second least populous administrative division of the country, which is determined by its entirely mountainous landscape. The majestic peaks in the area are among the most renowned winter sports destinations. Engelberg and Melchsee-Frutt are the best ski resorts, while the lakes of Lucerne, Sarnen, Lungerersee and Melchsee are preferred for summer holidays. A very small part of the land is suitable for agricultural use, but there are still plenty of traditional farms devoted to cattle-breeding and dairy production. High technology industries are rapidly turning into a major sector of local economy. Despite first being settled in Roman times, Obwalden features few remaining heritage sites. The only bigger town is the capital, Sarnen, which offers a Medieval castle and historical houses to guests interested in history.
