Schwyz
Schwyz is one of the three cantons that founded the confederation in 1291. The canton is located in Central Switzerland, surrounded by Lucerne, Zug, Zurich, Sankt Gallen, Glarus and Uri. The terrain is extremely varied, with high Alpine peaks, narrow river valleys and picturesque mountain lakes, such as Lake Zurich, Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Sihlsee. They represent incomparable venues for watersports and idyllic summer holidays. Another leading tourist destination is the renowned winter resort of Einsiedeln, which is also a centre of pilgrimage and boasts great heritage sites. The capital, Schwyz, is a charming mountain town which is picturesquely situated on the shores of Lake Lucerne and Lake Lauerz. The main attraction here is the Bundesbriefmuseum, where stamps going back to the year 1291 are displayed.
