Black Sea
The Black Sea Region stretches along most of the Black Sea coastline. To the west, it borders the Marmara Region, while to the south it shares common borders with Central Anatolia and Eastern Anatolia. The short northern frontier of the region is with Georgia. The landscape of the area is characterised by striking contrasts between the wide, sandy beaches, fertile coastal plains, steep slopes with exuberant vegetation and the majestic snow-capped peaks of the Pontic and Kackar Mountains, which rise only a short distance from the sea. The incredible variety of natural areas in rapid succession have brought the region its fame as a first-class tourist destination. With not only modern seaside resorts, but also cosmopolitan cities and authentic villages full of cultural heritage, it attracts millions of visitors. Many nature reserves and protected areas have been created to save the diversity of flora and fauna, especially on the coast and in the highest parts of the mountains.
