East Midlands
East Midlands is one of the nine regions that constitute England. Bathed by the waters of the
North Sea to the east, this region lies in the central part of the country. It has boundaries with
most of the other regions, which verifies its key location. The most striking feature of East
Midlands is the diversity of its landscape, which is quite atypical of many other parts of the country. Nature lovers are drawn by Peak District National Park, an area of stunning beauty, clean lakes and hilly woodland. It provides incomparable opportunities for healthy activities like biking, hiking, horseback riding and a row of other alternatives. Another highlight in the region is the Sherwood Forest, arguably one of the most famous forests worldwide and a place where legends still live. The urban areas in East Midlands fall behind the rest of England in terms of density, but the multicultural cities of Leicester, Nottingham, Lincoln and Derby also have their own charm. As
a historical heart of England, the area abounds in cultural heritage sites, such as the Derwent
Valley, included by UNESCO on the World Heritage List. The imposing Lincoln Cathedral and the
Belvoir Castle are also essential stops for every tourist programme in East Midlands.
