East of England
East of England, as its name suggests, occupies the eastern-most part of the island. It is the second largest and fourth most populous region in the country. This administrative unit lies between London and the so-called 'Home Counties' to the south, and East Midlands to the north and west. The appeal of East of England lies in the vast plain landscape that actually represents a mass of green. The spacious rural areas, authentic towns and hospitable inhabitants contribute to the unspoilt character of the district. There are no big cities and agglomerations, except for the pleasant provincial towns Luton and Peterborough. Some of the places that are worth seeing are the Roman remains of Colchester, the breathtaking architecture in Cambridge and a host of lively and atmospheric market towns and villages. For those who want to spend some time lying on the beach, the renowned seaside resorts Aldeburgh and Great Yarmouth offer everything for a perfect holiday.
