Tyrone
Tyrone is the largest but one of the most sparsely populated among the six counties of Northern Ireland. It's situated in the west of the country and borders the counties of Londonderry to the north, Fermanagh to the south and west and Armagh to the east. Furthermore, County Tyrone has two short stretches of boundary with the Republic of Ireland. The main town, Omagh, is a first-class educational centre with its renowned college. It also attracts visitors with its imposing historical buildings, plenty of well-maintained parks and gardens, and above all the Ulster American Folk Park. Due to the longer distance to the ocean and the rugged landscape, the climate in Tyrone is not as mild as elsewhere in the country, which is the reason for numerous floods in the spring and summer, and heavy snowfall in winter. The countryside is especially suitable for rural tourism and hiking tours.
