Inverclyde
One of the smallest Scottish council areas, Inverclyde, is nestled on the west coast, between the
narrow Firth of Clyde and the regions of Renfrewshire and North Ayrshire. The district's economy
has prevailingly agricultural character. Port Glasgow is a significant transportation hub, serving as
an import and export harbour of the nearby big city of Glasgow. There are a couple of Medieval
castles that deserve attention, above all the scenic Newark Castle and the adjoining park. Other
noteworthy spots in the area are the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and Loch Thom, the main
source of fresh water in Inverclyde and a fantastic fishing venue. Greenock is the only bigger
town in the region. An important shipbuilding and industrial town in the past and centre of
electronic production in the present, Greenock has been suffering severe decline in its population
in the last decades.
