Renfrewshire
Renfrewshire is a relatively small, but densely populated, council in the western part of the
country. The area can be determined as outskirts of Glasgow, as it contains many commuter towns
and villages. In economical aspect, Renfrewshire is a part of the larger Glasgow urban area and
hosts some of its industries. The main Scottish airport is situated here. Paisley is the biggest city
and administrative centre of Renfrewshire. It is known in the United Kingdom for its weaving industry,
which is currently in steady decline. The city boasts a row of noteworthy architectural masterpieces
from different historical periods, like for example the Paisley Abbey, where Scottish kings were
buried during the late Middle Ages, or the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St Mirin. Other places of
interest include the historic Castle Semple Loch, part of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and the
Coats Observatory. The Renfrewshire Music Festival is a major cultural event in this part of Scotland.
