Glasgow
Glasgow is a city of superlatives. It is not only the biggest city and the most populous council area in Scotland, but also the third largest city in the whole United Kingdom. The economical and cultural centre of the country enjoys a multinational environment not to be seen anywhere else in Scotland. Lying on the banks of the river Clyde, Glasgow is considered one of the most picturesque cities on the island. It is approximately in the middle of the west central lowlands, the most fertile region. The world-famous University of Glasgow has earned the city the fame of a first-class educational and scientific centre. The cultural programme of the city could hardly be described completely – it offers practically everything, from art galleries, ballet, opera and theatre to street festivals and open-air concerts. Finally, Glasgow is celebrated all over the world as home of two of the most legendary football clubs on Earth, namely Celtic and Rangers.
