Falkirk
The council area of Falkirk is situated in the economic heart of the country on the river Forth. It is
one of the most densely populated areas in Scotland and has predominantly industrial character.
The main city with the same name, Falkirk, has gradually lost its heavy industrial base and today
its economy is more service-oriented. The major tourist attractions are the remains of the Antonine
Wall, the Callendar House and the massive facility Falkirk Wheel, which conects Forth and Clyde
Canal and Union Canal. The largely plain landscape of the region offers wonderful conditions for
excursions in nature, cycling and horseback riding trails with moderate difficulty. A network of
rivers and artificial waterways crosses the countryside and provides delight for fans of fishing and
watersports.
