Dundee
The city of Dundee is the fourth biggest city in Scotland and has the status of a separate council
area. It lies on the site where the river Tay flows into the North Sea, forming a picturesque
estuary. Dundee's history stretches back to pre-historic times, but the oldest remains found are
from the Middle Ages. Nowadays the city is a thriving industrial centre with a port of great importance for import and export of goods. Reputable educational institutions and a couple of theatres with long tradition form the modern image of Dundee. Within the city tourists should pay a visit to the only surviving part of the Medieval city walls, Wishart Arch, and the marvellously decorated St Mary's Church and McManus Galleries. Imposing mansions with well maintained parks and gardens in the outskirts invite the visitor for relaxation, so do the copious quiet squares downtown.
