Highland
Highland is undoubtedly the most enchanting region of Scotland, rich in centuries long cultural traditions and breathtaking landscapes. The largest and most thinly populated council area covers entirely the northernmost parts of the island. In fact, Scotland is often associated abroad with the Highland, especially when it comes to nature and customs. Thousands of square miles untouched by human activity, isolated fiords and islands, endless meadows and thick woods and majestic mountains shaped by glaciers in the past form the incomparable natural setting of the region. Here is the highest point in Great Britain – Ben Nevis. Multitude of old castles tell stories of great clans. The Cairngorms National Park and the Highland Wildlife Park are must-sees for nature lovers. In the area you will find the most famous Scottish tourist attraction – almost everyone heard of Loch Ness, the home of the legendary Loch Ness Monster. The urban areas in Highland are far less atractive from tourist point of view. Several bigger towns like the administrative centre Inverness, Wick and Nairn have various sights and monuments to offer.
