Stirling
Stirling is a comparatively large, but thinly populated council area in the centre of Scotland. Most of
the population and economic activities are concentrated in the southeastern corner of the region, in
and around the city of Stirling, which is the administrative centre and biggest town in the council
area. The rest of the district is occupied by predominantly low and monotonous contryside with
sporadic hills. A couple of protected natural areas and the Trossachs National Park as well as abounding cultural heritage sites attract tourists. The former seat of the Scottish Parliament, the already almost ruined Cambuskenneth Abbey, the Culcreuch Castle and the Stirling Castle are highly
rated tourist attractions. Due to its location, the city of Stirling draws many shopping buffs.
