South Lanarkshire
South Lanarkshire is a council in the heart of Scotland, between the main poles of economic development Edinburgh and Glasgow. Intact natural landscapes in the area are very limited, but nevertheless there are some attractive spots for recreation like the Falls of Clyde and Chatelherault Country Park near Hamilton. As everywhere in Scotland, castles and aristocratic mansions are copious in the region. The most noteworthy among them are the Bothwell Castle and the ruined Craignethan Castle. The village of New Lanark - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and important point in the European Route of Industrial Heritage also deserves special attention. The headquarters of the South Lanarkshire council are in Hamilton, a large lively town with interesting architecture and plenty of opportunities to while away the time with shopping or visiting cultural events.
