Scottish Borders
The Scottish Borders council area is located in the southeastern end of Scotland, on the border with
England. The region's landscape is determined largely by the Southern Uplands, a group of low
hills with skimpy vegetation, used mainly for pastures and agricultural purposes. The wide outlet on
the North Sea plays major role in the region's economy as a tourist destination and transportation
hub. The administrative centre of the Scottish Borders is Newtown St Boswells, an old Medieval
town with gradually declining importance. As a tourist destination, the council area offers a wide
range of opportunities – the picturesque parks and lawns strewn with cottages in the Cheviot Hills,
the spectacular coastline, formed by alternating sand beaches and weird-looking cliffs and the
rich cultural heritage, comprising countless castles, abbeys and churches will satisfy all tastes and
requirements.
