Anglesey
Anglesey is a county in the northwestern part of Wales. It comprises the island of the same name,
which is the largest Welsh island, and a group of other islands around it. The county is known as
a stronghold of the Welsh language, since more than two thirds of the population can speak this tongue. Inhabited since pre-historic times, the island of Anglesey is strongly associated with the Druids. Lots of Megalithic monuments and artefacts can still be seen today in the area. Today
the county's economy is based mainly on agriculture and tourism. The main tourist attraction is
the village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch – the settlement with the
longest official name in the United Kingdom. Llangefni is the administrative centre of the county
and hosts some of the few industrial enterprises in Anglesey. The two bridges over the Menai Strait, which connect the island and the mainland part of Wales are very popular landmarks.
